“And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp” (Exodus 32:17).
It has always amazed and fascinated me. Joshua is portrayed as the military general who led the battles and the wars for the children of Israel. Then Moses takes him up on Mount Sinai and orders the elders to wait for Joshua and him to come to them (Exodus 24:13-14). Forty long days pass. I am so impressed with Joshua. I fear if it was me that I would have heard the sounds coming from the camp and would have run as fast as I could down the mountain. Surely there would be the excuse of not being able to wait for Moses because it sounded like an attack. But faithful Joshua, in spite of how things appeared or even sounded, does the right thing. He waits when he could have easily run. Nothing is as important as obedience.
For today: I have to be careful not to make up excuses. I simply need to obey the Lord. How about you?
