We are doing something a little different for a few days. In our “Daily Prescriptions” I am bringing to you a tiny portion of a two-page newsletter I send out every Tuesday to our Baptist Church Planters’ retirees. This newsletter is called “Dr. Mike’s Weekly House Call,” and this one was sent on Tuesday August 11, 2020.
Here is something to think about. There are two ways to start the day. I can grumble and complain. I can be bitter about my plans not coming about the way that I planned. I can make others rather miserable around me because of the sour way I view my circumstances. Or I can greet the day this way: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praise unto Thy name O Most High: To show forth Thy lovingkindness in the morning…” (Psalm 92:1-2a).
With the Lord’s help, let’s trust Him, let’s be joyful in Him, let’s count our many blessings, and let’s determine that we will be a blessing to others around us!
Of this we can be very sure!
On one hand…
We can be sure that life at times will be hard.
We can be sure that trials will come and they won’t be easy.
We can be sure that there will be tears that will fall.
We can be sure that there will be disappointments.
We can be sure that we will experience discouragement.
“In the world ye shall have tribulation” (John 16:33a).
On the other hand…
We can be sure that the Lord is in control of everything.
We can be sure that the Lord will never leave us.
We can be sure that the Lord will never forsake us.
We can be sure that the Lord will help us.
We can be sure that the Lord really is everything that He has promised to be. He will do everything that He has promised to do. He is our faithful God.
For today: Join me in thinking about what the Lord Jesus said, “In this world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b). So the big question is, how did you start your day today?
