While some of you are new to “Dr. Mike’s Daily Prescriptions,” a few of you dear readers go way, way back to the time of being in Bible school with me. Over fifty years ago we had a professor named Dr. Marmion L. Lowe. He was a beloved prof, and I thought of him this morning as I turned to Ephesians in my Bible. I can still hear proclaim that “Ephesians is the spiritual Alps of the New Testament because we are lifted into the heavenlies in its teachings.”
Very true indeed.
Think of just one of the many, many awesome verses. It’s Ephesians 2:4, “But God, Who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us.” Think of it. Our precious Lord is rich in mercy and great in love! Let’s take a moment to camp on several of these words.
RICH. This is the word plousios (PLOO-see-os) conveying the thought of abundance or abounding.
MERCY. This is the word eleos (EL-eh-os) conveying the thought of kindness extended toward the miserable or the act of withholding what one actually deserves.
GREAT. This is the word polys (pol-OOS) conveying the thought of much, many, or large.
LOVE. This is the word agape (ag-AH-pay) conveying the thought of choosing to love another with a sacrificial love seeking the best interest of another.
This is our amazing God. He is rich in mercy and great in love.
When I think of my sin and the price that He paid,
How he came from Heaven and His life down He laid.
As my heart in wonder lifts its praise up above,
Our God is rich in mercy and He’s great in love.
How wonderful is the Lord indeed. Let’s worship Him indeed.
