Yesterday we read from Matthew 20:25-28 about just Who is really in charge of our lives. The Lord Jesus firmly reminded His disciples that He came to serve and yet He fully is in the Lord in charge. This brings us to the logical conclusion today.
Change of plans.
Change of schedule.
Change of direction.
Change of circumstances.
What if?
I know that I sound like I’m writing in riddles today. But here’s the direction of my Daily Prescription for just now. What if the Lord suddenly changed your plans, schedule, direction, and even the circumstances surrounding your life? What would you do? Would you still love Him? Would you still obey Him? Would you still serve Him?
Do you suppose that Noah dreamed of building an ark before the Lord interrupted his life?
Do you suppose that Abram dreamed of leaving Ur and becoming the father of nations before the Lord changed his direction?
Do you suppose that Moses dreamed of leading the children of Israel from Egypt through the wilderness for forty years before the Lord gave him the burning bush experience and changed the entire condition of his life?
Friends, probably the change will not be as dramatic as building an ark or leading a nation through the wilderness. However, there are dozens of “changes to our plans” as the Lord orchestrates His will, purpose, and directions for our lives. It is in these moments especially that I want to identify with what King David said as he proclaimed,
“I trust in Thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in Thy hand” (Psalm 31:14-15).
I will love You, Lord; serve You, Lord; obey You, Lord, and trust You, Lord, even in the day when You change “my plans” and maybe I don’t even understand at the moment what You are doing. That’s the kind of devotion I want to be evident in my life. How about you?
