“But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness” (Romans 6:17-18).
Yesterday I spoke of the word “servant” which is “doulos” which gives the idea of “Giving one’s self up to the will of another.” We were given over to the will of another in that we were servants of sin. Now we are “duoloo” since we are bound to be His servants of righteousness.
It is quite literally saying to the Lord Jesus, “Lord, I am not in charge of my life. I will go anywhere, do anything, and be anything that you want me to be as long as you will go with me.” I don’t hear many believers being willing to pray such a prayer today. I am concerned that one of the greatest privileges in life is being lost in our own generation. That privilege is the joy of being the Lord’s servants. It is the privilege of coming to the place where I literally give myself over to the will of the Lord because He is in charge and now I am seeking to be a servant of righteousness. Have you come to this place? It isn’t easy. It is always blessed.
To be very honest with you: It’s easy to be a servant of sin. It’s blessed to be a servant of righteousness.
