Insights from a Glory-Bound Lady”
Selected Notes
Volume 7, Number 34 “A Step Into Her Experience of Feeling Overwhelmed ”
This is not going to be a dramatic pity party. Not at all. It is a step into absolute honesty. Come with me on a journey and see how the Lord helped her (and me!).
The chemotherapy was intense.
The cancer was spreading.
The sickness was horrible.
The tears were real when we looked at the Christmas lights and Karen whispered to me, “I wonder if I will be here with you next Christmas?”
On days like this Karen wrote very, very little if anything in her journal. Much of what she wrote spoke of her confidence in the LORD as to His person, plan, and purpose. She wrote words of deep trust, honest pleas to help her to live for Him, and sweet expressions of love notes to me. These I won’t share. However, I know that she would not mind me sharing this note with you.
She was reading Psalm 77 where the Psalmist spoke of being “overwhelmed!” He said, “I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed” (Psalm 77:3). Maybe that is just about how you feel today. Your difficult experience might be physical, emotional, mental, financial, relational or a dozen other possibilities. On one of her worst days Karen wrote a brief note to herself. I’m honored to share this with you today.
Karen wrote: Overwhelmed! I need to stay focused. “I remembered God” (77:3). Remember Who God is. He is God (Elohim), His title is the Majestic One (77:3). He is Most High (Elyon), the lofty, Supreme One (77:10). He is LORD (Jehovah), His personal name, the Self-existent One (77:11). What must I do? Trust Him completely! “I will meditate also of all Thy work, and talk of Thy doings. Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?” (77:12-13).
My closing thought for you today my friends: Most certainly Karen was not a robot without emotion or feelings. Her two-year-plus battle with a very horrible cancer was overwhelming at times. Remembering Who He is brings certainty in uncertain times. It brings security in unchartered experiences. These are not just words, friends. If you know the Lord as your Savior, if He is your God, your Most High God, your LORD, you can trust Him even on the overwhelming days.
