We are beginning our September together thinking about joy. How different it is from happiness which depends on favorable circumstances. Rejoice with me today as we consider a precious blessing.

This gives us joy today: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

When we come to the place that we don’t make an excuse for the sinful thing that we have done. When we view it from His perspective and agree with Him as to what He knows we have done, that is genuine confession. Then comes the wonderful blessings of His forgiveness and cleansing.

Followers of Christ are sensitive to the things that would displease Him.
Followers of Christ are mindful of the things that would grieve Him.
Followers of Christ are quick to agree with God that the sinful thing that we have done again is truly sinful.
Followers of Christ know the joy of forgiveness and cleansing.

Aren’t you glad He doesn’t hold grudges? What a wonderful blessing for each Christ follower today.
