A brief stop and remembering. Most of us can remember where we were and what we were doing as the awful, awful events of 9/11 began to unfold. We are mindful of the many who lost their lives on that terrible day. Here we are, twenty-three years later. Oh, how our beloved country is in need of earnest prayer.
She loved word pictures. Karen had been reading through the account of Abraham sending his dear servant on a very long journey for the purpose of finding a wife for his son Isaac. The account is found in Genesis 24. Certainly, the servant must have found the assignment very overwhelming.
The servant asks Abraham, “What if she isn’t willing to follow me?” (Genesis 24:5).
After many days of traveling, the dear servant of Abraham prays, “O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray Thee, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham” (Genesis 24:12). You know the rest of the account. Beautifully the Lord blesses the servant and answers his prayer.
With that in mind, Karen wrote several things that she wanted to do when facing challenging situations. I think you will enjoy them. She uses the word “WHAT.”
Karen jotted down just a couple of notes in her journal: When the situation is overwhelming, remember to dare to be different. Think of WHAT!
W= What has God said?
H= How must I respond?
A= Appropriate my resources.
T= Thank the Lord for this adventure!
Dare to be different. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
We easily can remember the word “WHAT!” When an overwhelming situation comes into your life, stop and think about Karen’s WHAT.
What does God’s Word say? What are His promises?
How should you respond? As a believer, I must, through the Lord’s strength, respond in a way that glorifies the Lord (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Wonderful resources are provided by the Lord. God’s grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9) and His Spirit will guide you (John 16:13). Other believers can be a blessing as they pray for you and encourage you (Galatians 6:2).
With His help and blessing, you can even be thankful. Remember Abraham’s servant? He was also thankful for the Lord’s provision and blessing (Genesis 24:27). So when situations come along that are neither what you would have chosen nor planned, stop and think of Karen’s WHAT!
