Oh, my friends, how I truly want to live out the verse I am going to share with you. I don’t always live it in the way I ought to live it. But I want to. Let me share the verse with you and then a couple of thoughts before sending you on your way today.
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him” (Colossians 3:17).
Actions are involved. “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed.”
Approval is involved. “Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
Appreciation is involved. “Giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.”
Simply stated, the Apostle Paul taught us that we Christ-followers must commit ourselves to living in such a way that our words and actions are Christ-honoring and bringing His approval. This Spirit-directed living in such a way as to please the Lord has one more thing involved.
Authority is involved. “The name of the Lord Jesus.” The word “Lord” is Kurios (KOO-ree-os) and means “He to Whom a person or thing belongs, to the master, the sovereign, the title of honor expressive of respect and reverence.”
Tomorrow I will have another amazing verse about the name of the Lord Jesus.
For today: I want to be careful how I live. What would Jesus do and how does He want me to live today? Those are not dreadful questions. They are delightful questions!
