“And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them” (Luke 2:20).
What an experience for the shepherds. Earlier they had been in the fields watching over their flocks. It probably was a pretty typical night. The ground was probably as hard as ever. The sheep probably smelled the same as ever. The conversation was probably about the same as ever. Then it happened! How terrified they must have been as the angels suddenly visited them! How amazed they must have been to hear the news announced by those angels! How thrilled to realize that they were the recipients of the grandest message ever told, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
No wonder that as soon as the angels departed the shepherds immediately responded. ! Making their way into Bethlehem, they desired to see this child lying in a manger. I hope that all of your Christmas plans and celebrations had the same thrill and wonder as the shepherds experienced. How awesome is our Lord!
For today: May the message of our Savior always be the thrill and amazement of our lives!
