It’s all a matter of perspective.
Do you remember the account of the twelve spies that Moses sent into the land (Numbers 13)? They were very thorough in exploring the land which the children of Israel were promised. Ten men returned with the report that the land was abundant in resources. However, they reported, “Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great” (Numbers 13:28).
Two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, viewed the same land, the same people, and the same walled cities. They had a totally different perspective.
“And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30).
The ten spies disagreed and said, “We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. We were in our own sight as grasshoppers” (Numbers 13:31, 33).
Truly, it’s all a matter of perspective. How big are the obstacles or how big is our God? I am not saying that we ignore our problems or obstacles. I am, however, saying we must keep the right perspective that Joshua and Caleb had. Listen to their confidence.
“If the LORD delight in us then He will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land that flows with milk and honey. Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not” (Numbers 14:8—9).
Yes, friends, the way we view our circumstance must always be through the lens of Scripture and the power and wisdom of our God.
