“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Jeremiah was living through the most distressing time of his life. God’s judgment fell heavily on Judah. The precious city of Jerusalem had been devastated because the people of God refused to listen to and heed His warnings. Jeremiah’s heart was absolutely broken. Through his tears, he still turned to the Lord and trusted Him. Let’s face it. We have never lived through anything as big as having your beloved country taken into captivity. But we all have experienced heartbreak, sorrow, disappointments, and difficulty. Through the most difficult of times, God wants to reach out through the circumstances and bring to you a special fellowship in which He demonstrates His awesome mercy and faithfulness. Yes, God does reveal these things to us in the good times. However, it is in the most difficult of times that His trustworthiness really shines. Are you going through a hard time right now? As soon as you awaken and then throughout your day, be watching for His mercy and faithfulness. Why? He promises that these will be new every day.
For today: Faithful is my Father. I will trust Him as a child. It is wonderful to picture myself snuggling in the arms of my faithful and merciful Father.
