“In the Lord put I my trust. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; His countenance doth behold the upright” (Psalm 11:1, 7).
Amanda and her young daughter, Susan, stood in the checkout line at the neighborhood grocery store waiting for the clerk to check them out. Earlier that morning Amanda was trying to instill in her young daughter the lifelong principle of how wise it is to obey even if Mommy isn’t looking! She reminded her that the Lord Jesus sees us and wants us to obey as well. In fact, Amanda told her daughter, “The Lord Jesus always did what was right. He loves it when we do the right thing as well.” Finally, the clerk was finished checking them out. Amanda could not remember another clerk spending as much time talking as this particular clerk did. Sure enough, when the clerk handed Amanda her change, it was way more than it should have been. She could’ve easily walked off with the wrong amount of money, but there was never a moment of doubt in Amanda’s mind. She stopped and very quietly explained to the clerk the mistake and did the right thing. When Susan was being strapped into her car seat she asked her mother, “Why did the lady keep saying, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you,’ to you, Mommy?” It was a great time for Amanda to teach her young child that even mommies want to please the Lord Jesus by doing the right thing. He truly does love righteousness.
For today: How many times today will you have the opportunity of doing the right thing because your righteous Lord will be pleased?
