“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3).
It is a difficult place to work. Rescue squad 93 and EMS squad 27 worked out of Engine Company 13 and seemed to be always busy. The downtown streets frequently are congested, and emergency responses sometimes are delayed because of the heavy traffic. They will never forget that night with Mr. and Mrs. Rogers and their young child. Responding to a frantic 9-1-1 call reporting a young child choking, Hank and his team of emergency responders could see their flashing lights reflecting off the area buildings. As quickly as they could, with the siren sounding and air horns blasting, they rushed to the residence. The dispatcher stayed on the line with the frantic parents, giving very clear directions on what they must be doing to save their child’s life. Upon arrival, the paramedics and firemen quickly entered the room, assessed the situation, took over the medical needs of the child, and successfully dislodged the little piece of hot dog and roll. For the sake of caution they transported the child to the hospital. He was awake, breathing well, and wanted to hear the siren again! Mrs. Rogers kept thanking the men for responding to their desperate call. Sometimes when we call upon the Lord, it may seem to us that He doesn’t put on the emergency lights and siren. His answer doesn’t seem to be quickly coming. It’s then that we must remember that He has promised to answer. Trust Him!
For today: If you know the Lord as your Savior, you can call on the Lord. He will answer you in wonderful ways.
