“But our God is in the Heavens; He has done whatsoever He pleased” (Psalm 115:3).
One of the most delightful doctrines in theology, I believe, is the doctrine of the sovereignty of God. I fully believe that our God is awesome in every aspect. I believe that He is sovereign in that He rules over the affairs of men and that everything is operating according to His tremendous plan. I do not always understand what He is doing. But I know that He is in control, so by His grace I will trust Him. Shirley and Sally were sisters. Neither ever married, and both of them lived in the family homestead. Both sisters loved the Lord and found a great peace and satisfaction in serving Him. The evening news just concluded. Both of the elderly sisters were alarmed at the report of terrorists, wars, violence, and weather systems that were ripping the country apart. As Sally turned the television off, Shirley said to her sister, “I came to trust the Lord Jesus as my Savior just a few years before you did. You and I have walked with the Lord most of our adult lives. After listening to the news this evening, isn’t it wonderful to remember the blessed truth about the sovereignty of our God?” Both sisters headed to their separate rooms and experienced the peace of heart and joy of spirit in being confident that their God is in Heaven and that He is in control.
For today: As you watch the news, remember the great news of our God being sovereign!
