“Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble” (Isaiah 47:13-14).
We have broken into a powerful passage found in Isaiah 47:12-15. Isaiah pleads with people reminding them that their idols are nothing, fortune tellers are false witnesses, and none of these things can replace the Lord Himself. The Lord God longed to be their Savior (Isaiah 45:22). He warned them that every knee would bow before Him (Isaiah 45:23). Now He clearly calls on them to see the foolishness of trusting in idols and sorcerers. Susan and Patricia were continuing to have quite a discussion that morning. Against Susan’s strong counsel, Patricia had visited a local psychic. Susan queried, “So what did the psychic tell you?” Patty was reluctant to answer but finally said, “Well to tell you the truth, not much. She said that I would be meeting someone soon in my future and that I needed to be careful what I did with my finances. She also told me to avoid religious people because they were unhealthy for me.” Susan reached out and touched her friend’s shoulder as she said, “Pat, we’ve been friends for years. God has told you in His Word everything that you need to know for your present life and what will come in the future. You are looking in all the wrong places for your answers.” After a few seconds of quietness, Patricia responded, “Sounds like pretty good advice, Sue. You’ve wanted to do a Bible study with me for years. Maybe now is a good time to start.”
For today: God’s Word shall stand. The psychics shall be as stubble. God Himself says so!
