“He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David” (Luke 1:32).
Part of the description given to Mary by the angel Gabriel concerns the absolute greatness of the Lord Jesus. “He shall be great.” This speaks of His size, magnitude, and worth. We get our word “mega” from it. The Lord Jesus is great in every way. The old retiring pastor didn’t want to have a party. He knew that his ministry was the result of the grace of God and not the result of anything for which he wanted to take credit. But the church family insisted on honoring him. One of the speakers at the dinner said of the retiring pastor, “Our Pastor is so gifted. He is a great man of God.” At that point the old retiring pastor could contain it no longer. “Friends, friends, my dear friends, I am not great. Never was. Never will be. But I do serve a great Lord. Give Him all the credit for anything that was accomplished. Now let’s have some cake.” Everyone burst out laughing but still gave the retiring pastor a standing ovation. He didn’t like that either! How great is our Lord.
For today: How great is our Lord. Serve Him today!
