“For He that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is His name (Luke 1:49).
Mary is giving praise to the Lord for the great way He has worked in her life. She chose the word “great” which has to do with excellence and magnificence. Think of it. Who would believe her when she told them that she was indeed a virgin? Would her parents? Would Joseph? Would her friends believe such a statement? No matter what anyone thought, Mary praises the Lord for the excellent and magnificent way the Lord worked in her life. Stan and Karralyn were speaking about the reaction of their children toward moving to another church where their dad would be the pastor. None of Stan and Karralyn’s children wanted to leave their friends and move. Quietly and graciously Stan led his family and very wisely accepted the will of God and trusted Him to help his family. The move was great for the entire family. Stan would be the pastor of that church for the next fifteen years. At the end of his pastoral career, he spoke to his family as they gathered for Christmas celebrations. “You know, family; fifteen years ago some of you didn’t want to move. Now here you are with your children still living in this area. Hasn’t the Lord worked in a great way?” Franklin spoke up and said, “Dad, you and Mom were right. I have thanked the Lord nearly every day in the last few years. I wish I would have thanked Him earlier. He has done great things for us.”
For today: Begin to thank God and be watching for the great ways He is working.
