“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal” (1 Corinthians 13:1).
The Apostle Paul presents a great description for us of what genuine love really looks like. Many of us have been reading the King James Version of the Bible for many years. We have come to appreciate the wording of the KJV. I think in this instance it is interesting to read this verse in the New King James Version. It says, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.” I used to play the trombone. There were times in the morning when I would play pranks on my children by loudly blasting my trombone outside their bedroom doors. Through the years our kids have remembered those early mornings blasting brass sessions. I suppose the only thing worse would be a clashing cymbal. A constant blasting brass and clashing cymbal surely attracts attention, but it does not endear people. That’s what happens with people who have a lot of words but very little love. I don’t want to live that way. How about you?
For today: I truly want to ask the Lord Jesus to help me live with His love reaching out and through my life today. How about you?
