“When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which He hath given thee. Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes which I command thee this day: lest when thou hast eaten and art full… Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God” (Deuteronomy 8:10-12, 14).
Moses was very concerned that the children of Israel faced a much greater danger in the Promised Land than they did in the wilderness. As they traveled through the barrenness of the desert, they had had to absolutely depend upon the Lord their God for everything. Soon, however, they would be moving into a land that would be rich in resources. There would be good water available. The ground would bring forth much wonderful food. Soon they would live in abundance. What danger! With such abundance it would be easy for them very quickly to forget the Lord. The same is true with us today. In our abundance of material resources, we still need to depend fully upon the Lord. May God help us not to forget Him.
For today: With great resources at our disposal may we always stay diligent in our trust in the Lord!
