“And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, The LORD, He is the God; the LORD, He is the God” (1 Kings 18:39).
This is one of my favorite passages to preach. Elijah proposed a contest between the prophets of Baal and himself. The true and living God would be the One Who would answer by sending fire to consume the sacrifice. Nothing happened when the followers of Baal prayed, danced, shouted, and even cut themselves. Nothing happened. Then Elijah prayed, and the LORD immediately sent massive fire that consumed not only the sacrifice but even the wood, the stones, the dust, and the water that was in the trench. It was a mighty display of the awesome power of the Lord. No wonder the people fell on their faces and proclaimed their trust in Him. How about you? How will this impact your life today? Do you know Him?
For today: Whatever I face today, I want to remember that I belong to the true and living God. He is LORD!
