“Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; show forth from day to day His salvation. Declare His glory among the heathen; His marvelous works among all nations. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised” (1 Chronicles 16:23-25).
“I am going to become a missionary and preach the gospel to the heathen in faraway lands!” said young and somewhat arrogant Carl. “The mission fields are calling me, and when I complete my education I shall preach to those lost heathens,” he continued. Several more of Carl’s grand statements were made until several of the Bible College students couldn’t refrain any longer. “Well, Carl, that is a wonderful goal if that is how the Lord leads you,” Judy said. “But you know, Carl, there are many people here in the United States, and even right here in our city that do not know the Lord as their Savior? Do you ever witness to them by sharing the gospel right now?” Judy asked. Carl looked dumbstruck. Without saying a word, he simply got up and walked out of the room. Quickly Judy spoke to the small group, “Oh dear. What have I done? I didn’t mean to offend him, only challenge him to witness now.” An upperclassman named Jonathan quietly said, “This probably will become one of the greatest days in Carl’s life, if he listens to the Lord.”
For today: The heathen abound and desperately need to hear of the glory of the Lord. Make it a great day, dear Christian. You are a missionary already, you know!
