“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Yesterday we briefly thought of the disciples who originally didn’t believe the news of the women concerning Christ’s resurrection. How important it is for us to keep focused on Christ and believe His Word. To keep looking ahead and running the race that is set before us is not only a Biblical command, it is also the only safe way of living–which brings us to Tom. The crash came suddenly and with a bone-shattering intensity. Tom’s phone had sounded. He had anticipated this text, and rather than waiting for the next exit, he had glanced down briefly to read it. “What could possibly happen in the few seconds it will take to read this text?” he had thought to himself. Well, a lot would take place in those few seconds. Leaving the road and swerving, his truck rolled over once and came to a crashing stop as it hit the tree. Glass shattered. The horn blared. Smoke came from under the crumpled hood. Tom was seriously injured. All this took place because he took his eyes off the road. When we disregard God’s Word and take our eyes off Christ, we put ourselves in unnecessary danger.
For today: As I need to keep my eyes on the road while driving, I also need to keep my eyes on Christ, run the race He has set before me, and believe what He tells me. How about you?
