“Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips” (Psalm 143:1).
From the 1942 animated Bambi film a great lesson in practical Christian living takes place.
Thumper: He doesn’t walk very good, does he?
Mrs. Rabbit: Thumper!
Thumper: Yes, mama?
Mrs. Rabbit: What did your father tell you this morning?
Thumper: If you can’t say something nice…don’t say nothing at all.”
It may not be grammatically correct, but let’s take a lesson from Thumper. If we cannot say something that is encouraging, uplifting, correcting, edifying, and loving, then maybe we ought to just not say anything at all because the Lord is setting a watch before our mouths!
For today: It’s not often I quote a Walt Disney film, but Thumper is the exception!
