“And when He thus had spoken, He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth” (John 11:43-44).
Awesome! Spectacular! Miraculous! How else can one describe the mighty miracle the Lord Jesus performed that day in calling, “Lazarus, come forth!” and Lazarus immediately comes forth! Dead for four days, John proclaimed to us that Lazarus appeared in his grave clothes as he instantly responded to the voice of Him Who holds all authority over death and life. I have always believed that if the Lord Jesus had not been specific and had only called, “Come forth!” every person who ever died would have immediately come forth! We know that this will happen in the future as the dead will be summoned to stand before the Lord (Revelation 20:11-15). Today I am blessed as I think of the authority, majesty, and power of my precious Lord and Savior. The day is coming when we will hear that voice (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). It may be today!
For today: I am content and blessed to hear His voice today in the pages of the Word of God. But the day is coming when I will hear His actual voice. What a great day that will be!
