“Help, LORD; for the godly man ceases; for the faithful fail from among the children of men” (Psalm 12:1).

David was going through a terrible time in his life. It seemed to him that the ungodly were gaining and the godly were losing. In the same Psalm he wrote, “The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted” (12:8). In many ways this seems to be describing the current culture of our day. Things that were still considered shameful twenty years ago are spoken of now in a brazen manner. Wickedness is the cultural norm, and if a believer stands against it, that believer is considered intolerant. Here’s the encouragement. There’s really nothing new under the sun! David felt the same way we at times feel. The good news is that while Godly people are often in the minority, God is still in charge and His Word can be trusted (12:6). Rest in this assurance today, dear believer, as you call upon Him for help!

For today: God is still God, and He has everything under control. What blessed assurance this is to those who walk with Him.
