“For the LORD Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth” (Psalm 47:2).
They were some of the most terrifying and heart-wrenching days of my life. This goes back over thirty years when I was the Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Marilla, New York. Our little son Jeffrey was in critical condition up in one of the Intensive Care Units of the Buffalo Children’s Hospital. I had to go down to the security desk as regular visiting hours were concluding, just to let them know that his mommy and I would be staying overnight with Jeff. It was a matter of simply checking in so that the police officers would know who were with the patients. As I pushed the first floor button on the elevator, the rush of being totally overwhelmed and crushed flooded me. I was emotionally on the verge of collapsing. Then strength struck me as I thought about how awesome is the Lord. He truly is in charge of everything. After several stops, the door opened on the first floor as I whispered, “Lord, Karen and I trust you. We need You in tremendous ways, awesome Lord.” Stepping out, there sat nearly forty members of First Baptist Church of Marilla who were just sitting there waiting for me. I was surrounded by their embrace, and together we cried, and cried, and cried. Finally one of the men composed himself enough to pray with their pastor. God, the LORD Most High is awesome. Sometimes He uses people just like us to demonstrate His care.
For today: How does the awesomeness of the Lord affect you today?
