But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ” (Acts 9:22).
Saul of Tarsus was on a mission to find, arrest, bind, and bring back to Jerusalem any of the Christ-followers. Thinking he was doing God’s work, Saul was an angry, zealous persecutor of the early church. That is, until the Lord stopped him in his tracks on the road to Damascus. His heart was instantly changed as he asked, “Who art thou, Lord?” (Acts 9:5) and “What do you want me to do?” (Acts 9:6). The Lord is very good at stopping people in their tracks. One such case is Joe. He wanted nothing to do with Biblical Christianity. He was very content, and he didn’t want to be bothered by the several Godly believers in his life. Then came the night that his wife said, “I am not going on like this anymore. I can’t take it. I’m leaving.” Joe’s life was one of drinking, gambling, being flirtatious with other women, and a long list of other unwise and sinful actions. Suddenly, in a moment, Joe’s heart was changed. The very Biblical Christianity that he had once despised now he desired. It wasn’t long before he trusted in Christ and so did his wife. He often spoke of being “stopped in his tracks.” Do you know someone who needs to be stopped and whose heart needs changing? Don’t give up. Nothing is too hard for the Lord.
For today: How sweet it is to see the Lord doing what no human being ever could. Only He can change the human heart.
