“Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped” (Job 1:20) NKJV
This isn’t a very cheery verse for your spiritual vitamins, is it? But honestly, friends, death is an inevitable part of life here on this earth. God warned Adam that in the day he ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, he would surely die (Genesis 2:17). Adam did what you and I would have done as well. He ate. Death came into God’s creation. You will experience the death of those you love. Maybe you are in the depths of grief right now today. Someone very close to you has died. There are many lessons to be learned from Job. He didn’t live in denial. He genuinely grieved and allowed his emotions to be expressed. But he did something as well. He worshiped. The Hebrew word is shachah (sha-KHA) which basically means “As the inferior I bow before my superior LORD.” I have loved ones in Heaven that I deeply miss every single day. But I can tell you that my precious Savior grows sweeter as I worship, bowing in my heart before Him.
For today: In your hurts and disappointments, even in your times of grief, bow in worship and trust Him.
