“And He called unto Him His disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury” (Mark 12:43).
The Lord Jesus reckons things differently, that’s for sure. For instance, one day He and His disciples were at the Temple as He watched the various offerings being given. Doesn’t that make you stop and think about the subject of giving? He takes note especially of the attitude of the giver as well as the gift given. The wealthy gave of their abundance, according to Mark 12:41. The Lord observed this (vs. 44). Then it happened. A poor widow came to the place in the Temple where monetary offerings were given. From her poverty she cast in two mites (vs. 42). The Lord Jesus saw her situation, her attitude, her dedication, and to this day we are still talking about her gift. When you gave your offering in church today, was it given with the same level of devotion as was the poor widow’s gift?
For today: The Lord is worthy of our joyful giving to Him. It’s not that He needs anything. It’s that WE need to give to Him.
