“So shall My Word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).
Jocelyn was a second year college student taking classes at the local community college and living at home with her parents and elderly grandmother. Though she had made a profession of faith as a young child, Jocelyn had become more and more careless in her walk with the Lord. Grandmother’s heart was heavy as her granddaughter headed out for evening classes and a late night get together with her friends. “What are you reading in your Bible, Grandma?” Jocelyn asked. “Well, Honey, I am in Isaiah 55 right now where God speaks to us and reminds us that His ways are better than our ways and His plans better than our plans. I’m praying for you and am concerned for you, sweetheart,” Grandma said. With that Jocelyn was out the door and on her way. A little over three hours later in the middle of a large group of friends at the pizza place, God’s Word really struck Jocelyn deeply. Her ways and her thoughts were not at all what the Lord wanted for her. God’s Word didn’t return void. It accomplished just what He wanted it to do in Jocelyn’s life.
For today: Have you invested time in God’s Word today? It is not going to return to God without accomplishing His purpose.
