Karen was my dear and gracious cheerleader. She was such an encourager. Often she would show me the notes that she wrote as I was preaching. Over ten years ago I preached a message from 2 Timothy 4. Let me share the text and what she wrote in her own Bible study journal.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:6-7).
That is how Paul wanted to be remembered.
Karen wrote: How do I wish to be remembered? Here is the witness that endures. I must remember several absolute and indisputable facts.
1. I am not here by accident.
2. I am here for a purpose.
3. I will touch many lives.
4. I will either waste time or redeem it.
I can be a Demas (4:10) who loved the world and departed. Or I can be one who served and finished well. I can be like Timothy who was a dear partner (4:9); Crescens and Titus who were sent and serving (4:10); Luke who was on call and faithful (4:11a) and Mark who was forgiven and now profitable (4:11b).
Michael’s observation: Karen surely finished her race well and is remembered as being a faithful servant who was a dear partner in ministry to many, one who served and was faithful and profitable to the Lord. I want to be that kind of believer as well. How about you?
