“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world” (Galatians 6:14).
The young pastor was on his way to visit briefly with one of the most remarkable men he had ever met who was now in hospice care. This man was highly educated. He was a great speaker. His ministries were blessed. Now his time on earth was short, and soon he would be Home with the Lord. “What an obituary will be written about this dear servant of the Lord,” the pastor thought to himself. Soon he arrived, and within moments something took place that he would never forgot. Instead of ministering to the dying servant, the servant ministered to the pastor! He mustered the strength to say, “Pastor, no matter what happens, it will always be worth it to serve the Lord. Soon I will be Home, and no matter what anyone wants to say about me, the honest truth is that I was a wretched sinner saved by the grace of God. I will glory only in what the Lord Jesus did for me on the cross and the empty tomb. That’s all that matters.” What a powerful testimony. The young pastor was vividly reminded not to entertain boasting but rather, all glorying and boasting must center upon the Lord.
For today: What a great way to live and honor the Lord today! “God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ!”
