“But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble” (James 4:6).
I am not sure how the phrase “God resists the proud” strikes you. For me, it is something that captures my attention. Think about it! The God Who holds all power, all wisdom, and all might reveals that He will resist anyone who is proud. The word “resist” is antitasso (an-te-TAS-so) which means “to range in battle against or to oppose.” On the other hand, to the believer who humbles himself, God gives grace. What a practical and powerful message James brings to us from the Lord today. First of all, we have nothing for which to be proud of ourselves. Second, when considering these two options of God either resisting me or giving me more grace, I know which one I want. How about you? I want grace, and being honest with myself as to who and what I used to be and where I would be today if it weren’t for the Lord should keep me humble.
For today: Pride and God’s resistance or humility and God’s grace – the choice is up to you. Choose wisely, friend.
