“I will love Thee, O LORD, my strength” (Psalm 18:1).
The next time you are holding your copy of God’s Word, take a moment to look at the tiny print between the Psalm number and the first verse. This is called a superscription. Often these brief statements describe a musical term, tell who wrote the Psalm and even sometimes give the background or circumstances under which the Psalm was written. For Psalm 18, the superscription indicates that David wrote this when the LORD delivered him from the hands of his enemies. What a powerful background! There have been times that people have been angry with me, but no one has ever hunted me down attempting to kill me. David did however! He knew what it was like to have to run for his life, hide in caves for protection, and to have seemingly insurmountable obstacles in his life. Yet there was something that David also possessed. It was a precious strength that came from the One Who David loved. It was the blessing of knowing the LORD, his strength! When David thought that he could go on no longer, the Lord Himself provided strength for him. That Lord wants to do the same for you today. This strength from the Lord will only cause you to love Him more and more.
For today: I am in love with the Lord. How about you? Oh, what wonderful blessings are in store for those know the Lord and trust Him.
