Volume 3 Number 26 “Karen was told, ‘I Really Didn’t Want to Come!’”
July 15th 2020
The invitation to speak at a particular event would arrive and then often a little explanation as to the theme of the engagement would be shared. Sometimes the speaking invitation came with no particular theme, and the one doing the inviting would say something like this: “Just speak on whatever you sense the Lord is leading you. It’s up to you.”
Such an invitation came to Karen. She was invited to speak three times over two days. Let me share a verse of Scripture with you and then just wait until you read what Karen was told.
“So shall my Word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).
Karen was told: “Karen! I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but I didn’t want to come to this retreat. I simply didn’t want to come. But several of the ladies invited me and didn’t give up on me. Here’s a little note to read later.”
In part the note said: “…I’ve already told you that I didn’t want to come. You don’t know me and of course, you don’t know anything about me. I’ve been dealing with something that no one in my church knows about. No one who came to the retreat knows about it. But you shared how you had been praying and asking the Lord what to speak about. You opened the Bible and it was like you were speaking only to me. It was exactly what I didn’t want to hear, but I really needed to hear. I want you to know that I’ve dealt with the situation and I just thank you for coming and I want you to know now that I am so glad I came! God really spoke to me from His Word.”
Michael’s observation: Several years later Karen and I were in somewhat of a crowd of people. Suddenly over the noise of the crowd we heard the call, “Miss Karen! Miss Karen! Miss Karen!” Up runs this lady and embraces Karen. With tears streaming down her cheeks she indicated how God had spoken to her through His Word that night and how she was still living for Him now. Both Karen and this lady rejoiced together and celebrated. So did I. How will God’s Word impact your life today?
