Volume 4 Number 1 “An Incredible Moment Right Now!”
January 6, 2021
I believe that everyone can agree that 2020 was quite a year. Folks have posted humorous statements expressing the difficulty of that year. One person wrote, “So far, 2020 is like looking both ways before you cross the street then getting hit by an airplane.” Many have been challenged physically, financially, and even spiritually during that time.
Let me take you back ten years to something that Karen wrote in her Bible study journal. A new year was about to dawn. Obviously, no one other than the Lord can see beyond the present moment as we start the journey for next year. While this was written long before the cancer diagnosis, Karen was very concerned for a number of dear folks who were facing great uncertainties as they faced the new year.
In her Bible study she had been reflecting upon the account of the angelic visitation to the shepherds who were in the field keeping watch over their flock in the darkness of the night time. How incredible that the great announcement of the birth of Christ came to these men (Luke 2:8-20). Even more incredible and wonderful is the reaction of those keepers of the sheep.
Karen wrote: Those shepherds traveled from the fields (Luke 2:15-20). In fact, not only did they respond (2:15), they responded with haste (2:16). This is how I desire to apply this to my own life. Like the shepherds, I can have confidence in:
God’s plan. “So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth” (Luke 2:3-4a).
God’s promises. “…to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David” (Luke 2:4b). Micah 5:2 promised the birth of Christ would take place there.
God’s precision. “So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered” (Luke 2:6).
God’s provision. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
Michael’s observation: No one can look into 2021 and predict with certainty what will come into his or her life. However, with confidence, just like the shepherds that night long ago, we can have confidence in the same message from the same awesome Lord. This is much more than simply nice words of encouragement. His plan, promises, precision, and provision are true, and you can count on them.
