The Five Very Special Things Wise Believers Say to the Lord
When we place our trust in God’s wonderful plan of salvation, we actually become His children. As His own children we are highly privileged to be able to talk our Father at any time. In fact, this relationship is so tender and so special, that we get to call him “Abba, Father” according to Romans 8: 15. This has the tender idea of being our Papa Daddy Father.
We can talk with Him about anything. Anything! While we’re praising Him and talking to our Father about the things that are upon our hearts, there are at least five things about which wise children regularly speak to their Father. I often include these in my prayer times with the Lord. As you can see, they come right from the Scriptures.
1. Thank you for being so very good to me. “Good and upright is the LORD” (Psalm 25:8).
2. Help me to learn to wait upon You. “Wait on the LORD, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14).
3. Cause me to depart from evil and do the right thing. ”Depart from evil and do good” (Psalm 34:14).
4. Settle my heart and help me to truly trust You. “”Trust in the Lord, and do good. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:3-5).
5. Draw me closer to You as I learn more about You and Your ways. “But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the LORD God, that I may declare all Your works” (Psalm 73:28).
These five statements are not speeches that we make to the Lord. Rather, they are the heart issues that the Lord delights in and that will be good for us to keep in focus.
