“You must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please Him who enlisted him as soldier” (2 Timothy 2:3-4).
The Apostle Paul knew a lot about the lives of soldiers because he was chained to one for prolonged periods of time in his life. Paul takes the life of a good soldier and applies it to the way that younger Timothy must view himself. Did you know that on this date in 1775 George Washington was appointed commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, the day after Congress established the force. Soldiers under the command of Washington were either good or dishonorable, pleasing or displeasing to their commander. Similarly for us as believers, while none of us live perfectly, it ought to be our goal that we will please our Lord by not being entangled with the world in this life.
For today: Seeking to please the Lord today is a worthy goal of every believer. May it be so! May it be so!
