I have folks ask me, “With your heart being so very sick, how are you holding up?” I tell them “Honestly, spiritually and emotionally I really am doing very well. As for physically, I am a lot better than you would expect that I should be.” Some folks wonder if I am living in some kind of denial. Believe me! I am not. I know how serious my physical situation is. I also know that I am not alone!
Everyone is dealing with something. Every person I know has some kind of challenging situation going on in either his or her life or in the lives of family and friends. I am a Christian. By that I mean I have asked the Lord Jesus to be my personal Savior. Now my daily fellowship and relationship with the Lord profoundly impacts my perspective. I still grieve and miss my wife who died nearly four years ago. I still have physical limitations with my heart disease. I am not living in denial. However! Let me share with you three perspectives that are growing deeper in the difficulties, adversities, and the adjustments that have come into my life. If you have trusted Christ to be your Savior, honestly you can have the same perspectives.
It is not a matter of how powerful are my problems. It is a matter of how powerful is my awesome God. “In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us” (Psalm 62:7-8).
It is not a matter of whether I have the strength to endure this. It is a matter of how sufficient is His grace to sustain me. “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
It is not a matter of whether I can hold on or not. It is a matter of Who is holding me. “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand…No man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand” (John 10:28-29).
This is not a wishful, cheer up, ignore your problems kind of attitude. These three perspectives are becoming even more special to me as time goes on. I am amazed at His power, grace, and care for His people. Do you know Christ as your own Savior?
