“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7).
Dr. Kenward stood before the class of those enrolled in one of his classes in the Bible Institute. He told them, “You have enrolled in a great school of learning. Cherish the months and years that you will have here with us. Learn all that you can learn. Ask questions. Be diligent. Ask the Lord to help you to do your best. But when it comes right down to it, here is the key to a good education. Turn in your Bibles to Proverbs 1:7 and embrace this truth. The fear of the Lord is the beginning or starting point of knowledge. I pray that each of you will fear the Lord. When you consider His awesome holiness and yet His profound grace and mercy, you will better fear Him. This fear is the deepest of respect, reverence, and breathtaking awe in His presence. This will equip you not only to begin your education; but it will also help you to live for Him in this world. That Bible Institute professor gave some pretty good advice for you and me as well, I would say.
For today: The Lord is God. I am not. He is worthy of my utmost fear and respect. I will be wise if I remember that fearing Him is the starting point to wise living
