“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:19-20).
“See that man over there?” Sherry asked her friend. “His name is Matthew. We all call him Grandpa Matt. I will introduce you to him in a minute. Just look at him talking with people in the foyer and praying with some. Everyone loves him here. He is honest with us about his problems, but always he takes the focus off himself and encourages us to keep our focus on the Lord. He tells us that he can’t sing in the choir, but he sings to himself as he keeps a thankful attitude. You would never know how much pain he endures,” Sherry said as she turned to her friend. “You will easily see what an attitude of gratitude he has,” she concluded. With that they were off to meet Grandpa Matt in the church foyer. The lesson from all of this is that believers don’t live in denial of their circumstances. They focus on the Lord, sing to themselves, and keep a thankful attitude.
For today: We believers don’t have to live under the circumstances when we soar above them with the Lord.
Update from Dr. Mike: This obviously was taking place before the coronavirus situation. No doubt you are among those in the shelter in place and staying at home. I hope that you are still demonstrating the Ephesians 5: 19-20 principles.
