“The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy” (Psalm 145:8).
“Sam, you must be the kindest, gentlest and most understanding man I’ve ever met,” Charlene said to her manager. She had recently been transferred to Sam’s department, and there was a lot for Charlene to learn and remember. Thanking her, Sam finished pouring his cup of coffee. Stepping away from the coffeemaker in the breakroom, Sam turned to Charlene and said, “Let me tell you something in response to your kind compliment. There was a time in my life that I was a hothead. I nearly got fired because of my temper. Then about seven years ago I met the Lord. I really honestly came to know the Lord as my own Savior. The change didn’t come overnight, and I certainly am far from perfect. But after I trusted Him to be my Savior, I wanted to know more about Him. I learned that He is gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger, and of great mercy. That’s what I ask Him to help me to be every day. Don’t misunderstand, Charlene. I am still working on these. He alone is perfect.”
For today: Aren’t you glad to belong to the Lord of grace, compassion, mercy Who is also slow to anger?
