“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts” (1 Peter 3:15).
From her desk before her shift would begin, Judy the nursing supervisor was quietly reading her Bible. She came to our text, 1 Peter 3:15. Stopping in the middle of the verse, she was struck with the word “sanctify.” Remembering that it has to do with the holiness of God, Judy lingered for a moment. “What an opportunity I will have today, Lord, to demonstrate that I have given you, the Holy One, first place in my heart,” she whispered to the Lord. Judy worked in a high pressure place on the medical/surgical floor. The patients were seriously ill. Most of the other nurses didn’t know the Lord. The doctors sometimes could be very demanding. It seemed at times like people were coming at her from every direction. But then the thought, the blessed thought, struck her. She belonged to the Lord Jesus. Gloriously He is far above any of those she would ever face. Quietly, with great joy, she whispered to the Lord, “You are my precious and awesome Holy One. I want to flee to You, speak of You, and act in such a way to demonstrate that You have first place in my life today.” What a precious few moments there in her office. How will this affect you today?
For today: God is holy, and therefore, we want to revere and trust Him today. Right?
