“Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Then the LORD put forth His hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth” (Jeremiah 1:8-9).
What an assignment from the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet. Terrified, Jeremiah explained to the Lord that he simply could not speak for him. He would be overcome with fear and would most assuredly not know what to say. What a precious promise the Lord gave to Jeremiah. While there certainly are differences between the role Jeremiah filled and the position which we fill today, there still is the wonderful and blessed reassurance that we don’t have to be afraid of people. We can trust in the Lord and depend upon Him to help us with our words and our testimony. It might surprise you how many friends all around you have experienced the same kind of hesitation and reluctance to speak. We all need the encouragement that God gave to Jeremiah.
For today: The Lord is stronger than any fear I might have. He can help me not to be afraid of their faces. How will this affect you today?
