I am turning to Psalm 56 today. Let me share a little outline I wrote in the margin of my Bible. I’ll share the verses that go along with the outline as well.
1. David’s conflict (56:1-2). “Be merciful to me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresses me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me; for they be many that fight against me, O Thou Most High.”
2. David’s cry (56:8-9a) “Thou tellest my wanderings; put thou my tears into Thy bottle: are they not in Thy book? When I cry unto Thee, then shall mine enemies turn back…”
3. David’s comfort (56:9b). “This I know; for God is for me.”
4. David’s courage (56:3-4). “What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee. In God I will praise His Word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
I have no idea what’s happening in your life or the lives of those you love. I do know that very dear people who love the Lord often face hardships and difficulties. King David certainly did. I so appreciate the Davidic transparency. He was honest about the situation (1-2). He was descriptive of crying out to the Lord (8-9a). He was open about being comforted by the relationship he had with the Lord (9b). He was very honest about his fears (3) and his trust in the Lord (4).
Friends, that is just what I needed today. How about you?
