“LORD, my heart is not haughty” (Psalm 131:1).
Three times a year the Old Testament Jewish men were to return to Jerusalem (families often made the pilgrimage as well) to worship the Lord. Psalms 120 through 134 comprise the songs that were sung called the “Songs of Ascent” or “Songs of Degrees.” King David had much for which he could have been very proud. As he kept the proper focus on the LORD, his heart would be truly humble. It’s the same for us today. The greater our focus on the worthiness of our awesome Lord, the more clearly we see ourselves and that, my friend, is very humbling.
For today: If today you find a person full of pride, then you will know the Lord is not in proper focus.
