“The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). “The LORD is my shepherd…” (Psalm 23:1).

How awesome is our God.

As the Creator, the natural creation and everything associated with it belongs to the Lord. As believers, it is our great privilege to be able to say that not only is He our Savior, He is our awesome Shepherd.

The Old Testament picture of the shepherd and the sheep is one of faithful and loving care and provision. The shepherd knew his sheep individually. He cared about them. When danger arose, he ran to it to protect the sheep. He would lay down his life for his sheep. That’s exactly what the Lord Jesus was speaking about to the people in John 10 when He said, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives His life for the sheep” (10:11). We want to be wise believers who recognize that we have the same tendencies as wandering sheep who easily can get into dangerous situations. We need a faithful Savior-Shepherd, and that is the Lord Jesus.

This thought fills me with love and praise for Him: Though He possesses everything (Psalm 24:1), He loves His people individually (Psalm 23:1) and cares for us as the Good Shepherd (John 10:11). How will this impact your day?
