“They shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. I, even I, am He that comforts you” (Isaiah 51:11, 12).
I’ve been going through the Book of Isaiah in my personal Bible reading time. After the chapters of righteous judgment (Isaiah 1-39), I have arrived now in the final chapters (40-66). These are the chapters of God’s promise of the restoration of Israel. He promised them wonderful blessings that will come when the Lord Jesus reigns on earth. While we must always be careful to keep separate the promises made to Israel from those made to the Church, there are blessings in which we all will share. The gladness and joy with sorrow and mourning fleeing away will be a grand day indeed! It is impossible for any of us to travel throughout a lifetime on earth without experiencing this sorrow and mourning. What wonderful comfort He gives to His people. Judy, Edward, and Richard were seated far from each other in that morning service, but the message of sorrow fleeing and comfort coming would be just what they needed to hear. More about them tomorrow.
For today: Experiencing sorrow? There is no quick little remedy. However, I can testify that our great God truly does comfort His people. Draw close to Him. Tell Him how you are feeling. Watch what He can do over time.
