“But I keep under by body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway” (1 Corinthians 9:27).
First of all, by using the word “castaway” Paul is not speaking about losing his salvation. Once a person has received the gift of salvation, he or she can never lose that wonderful gift. It is called “eternal security.” Clearly this is taught in the Word of God. So what was Paul talking about? He was making a bold statement about living carefully so that after he preached to others he might keep himself from carelessly sinning so seriously that he would be disqualified and his ministry would be over. It is likewise possible for a Christian to commit a disqualifying sin and end his or her effectiveness today. I often pray, “Lord, please ever keep me from a disqualifying sin that would hurt You and disappoint my family.” Do you think that this is a good prayer for you today as well dear friend?
For today: Let’s carefully and prayerfully make our way along the journey today. There is nothing as blessed as pleasing the Lord Jesus!
